NCP MP Supriya Sule Demands Government Action on Indigo Flight Disruptions
Concerns Raised Over Indigo Flight Issues
Supriya Sule, a Member of Parliament from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), expressed strong condemnation on Saturday regarding the recent disruptions in Indigo flights. She urged the Indian government to issue an official statement in Parliament and initiate an investigation into the matter.
Speaking to reporters, the NCP-SCP MP highlighted the ongoing inconvenience faced by passengers, stating, “What has happened with Indigo is unacceptable. The government must provide an official statement in Parliament, and an inquiry should be conducted... The situation over the past two days has been evident. The government has yet to make any statement... I hope that by Monday, the government will respond to the nation and Parliament regarding Indigo.”
Importance of Competition in Aviation
Sule emphasized the significance of competition within the aviation sector, noting that the dominance of a single airline could negatively impact the economy, businesses, and consumers. She remarked that if there were four or five airlines, the current situation would not exist. Therefore, competition is beneficial, and the customer should always be prioritized. A monopoly by any airline is detrimental to any economy, country, or business.
Due to delays and cancellations of Indigo flights, a large number of passengers across the country are experiencing significant inconvenience. Complaints regarding Indigo's negligence, unresponsive behavior, and staff shortages have left many travelers stranded at airports.
Government's Response to the Crisis
An official statement indicated that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed airlines, particularly Indigo, to implement immediate measures to rectify severe disruptions in flight schedules and stabilize services without delay. Two orders have been issued to address public grievances and restore service stability, especially concerning Indigo.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation reassured that the central government is fully aware of the issues faced by air travelers and is in continuous consultation with all stakeholders. Sule also supported the statement made by opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, asserting that the Constitution is under threat, which she believes is indeed true.
