NCP Leadership Addresses Speculations on Proposed Redistricting Bill
NCP's Stance on Redistricting Bill Clarified
Supriya Sule, the acting president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), dismissed rumors regarding her party's position on the proposed redistricting bill during a press conference on Wednesday. She characterized the controversy as a minor issue that has been blown out of proportion, stating that the NCP has not yet taken an official stance on the matter. Sule, speaking after discussions with party leader Sharad Pawar and senior members Jayant Patil and Shashikant Shinde, asserted that claims suggesting the NCP has decided to support the bill are unfounded.
No Official Comments Until Bill is Received
Sule emphasized that it is premature to comment on a bill that has not yet been presented to the party. "I am not discussing any bill at this moment. We will respond within 24 hours once it is in our hands," she stated. Meanwhile, meetings late Tuesday night between leaders from both factions of the NCP and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have reignited speculation about the political future of the NCP under Sharad Pawar's leadership.
Political Landscape of Maharashtra Under Scrutiny
These discussions come at a time when there is increasing speculation about whether the party might align itself closer to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), especially as both factions of the NCP face internal political challenges. Although no official details about the discussions have been released, the timing has sparked renewed debate about potential significant shifts in Maharashtra's political landscape.
Meetings with Chief Minister Fadnavis
Jayant Patil, the state president of NCP (SP), met with Chief Minister Fadnavis at Sharad Pawar's residence, 'Silver Oak', in Mumbai before their evening meeting. Additionally, senior leaders from the ruling Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP, including Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel, also had discussions with Fadnavis. Neither the leaders nor the Chief Minister's office provided comments on the purpose of these meetings, and sources from both NCP factions indicated they were unaware of the agenda.
