NCHAC Unveils Ambitious Budget for 2026-27 Focused on Development

The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council has announced its 14th budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, totaling Rs 1,232 crore. This budget emphasizes key areas such as education, sports, youth empowerment, and tourism, aiming to foster overall development in Dima Hasao district. With significant allocations for employee salaries and development projects, the Council is committed to utilizing these funds effectively. Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa highlighted the importance of strengthening revenue sources and enhancing the district's socio-economic landscape. This ambitious budget reflects the Council's dedication to creating better opportunities for the youth and promoting tourism in the region.

Haflong, Aug 5: The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) has introduced its 14th budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, proposing a comprehensive budget of Rs 1,232 crore. The budget prioritizes sectors such as education, sports, youth empowerment, tourism, and the overall advancement of Dima Hasao district.

The budget was unveiled during a special session at the Council's headquarters in Haflong by Donpainon Thaosen, the Executive Member responsible for Finance, alongside Chairman Mohet Hojai. All members present in the House expressed their support for the budget proposals.

In his presentation, Thaosen emphasized the Council's improved fiscal framework and increased discretionary powers, crediting the enhanced financial status to the ongoing support from the Government of Assam.

Of the total budget, Rs 889 crore is allocated under the State-Owned Priority Development (SOPD) scheme for essential sectors, which includes employee salaries, developmental initiatives, and other key projects. Additionally, the Council has established a Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Area Development Fund, dedicating Rs 30 crore to foster development activities across various constituencies.

The budget also allocates Rs 232 crore for establishment expenses to settle outstanding salaries, gratuities, and other dues owed to Council employees, including Class I and Class II officers.

After the budget session, Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa stated that the Council is dedicated to effectively utilizing the allocated funds for the welfare and comprehensive development of Dima Hasao.

He further mentioned that the Council aims to bolster its revenue through taxation, land revenue, and sustainable management of forest resources.

Gorlosa highlighted that the new budget places significant focus on education, sports, youth empowerment, and tourism, aiming to create better opportunities for the youth while enhancing Dima Hasao’s tourism potential and accelerating the district’s socio-economic growth.
