Brahmaputra River Expedition Launch

Biswanath, Oct 28: A 10-day expedition along the Brahmaputra River, featuring 100 cadets from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), commenced from Biswanath Ghat on Wednesday. This event honors the legacy of Bir Lachit Barphukan, the esteemed Ahom general known for his resistance against Mughal invasions.

Organized by the NCC Directorate of the North-Eastern Region, the expedition, named “MENU 2026”, will traverse 248 kilometers through six districts in Assam, concluding at Pandu Port in Guwahati on November 6.

The cadets participating in this journey are from the 48 and 49 Assam Naval Units of the NCC.

The route includes Biswanath, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Darrang, Morigaon, and Kamrup Metropolitan districts.

Brigadier Mayank Vaid, the Group Commander of the NCC Group Headquarters, stated that approximately 100 cadets will participate in the sailing expedition from Biswanath Chariali to Guwahati.

“This 10-day sailing journey will culminate in Guwahati, where cadets will engage with local communities and partake in cultural activities,” Vaid noted.

Lieutenant Commander Tileswar Nath, who is leading the expedition, mentioned that the initiative has two main goals: to promote the NCC’s motto of “Unity and Discipline” among the cadets and to enhance interaction with local communities.

“We will visit eight to nine ghats during the expedition,” he added, emphasizing that community outreach programs will tackle issues like women’s empowerment, drug abuse, and civic responsibility.

These awareness initiatives will involve local students and residents along the route. Cadets will also organize cleanliness drives and perform street plays that celebrate Lachit Barphukan’s patriotism and legacy.

Vaid confirmed that the Indian Army is supporting the expedition, with naval officers participating and civil administration providing necessary assistance.

The expedition is under the leadership of Lieutenant Commander Nath, with support from security officer Lieutenant Commander Mohammed Farhan.

To ensure the safety of all participants, boats from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other rescue teams have been deployed.

The organizers aim to promote adventure, teamwork, and discipline among the youth in the Northeast while enhancing the NCC’s connection with communities along the Brahmaputra River.
