Navneet Kaur Discusses the Impact of Hockey India League on Player Development
The Role of HIL in Player Growth
Navneet Kaur, the captain of SG Pipers women's team, emphasized the significance of the Hockey India League (HIL) in providing exposure and fostering interactions between Indian and international players. She believes that this tournament is crucial for enhancing athletes' confidence and facilitating learning.
Building Bonds Through Shared Experiences
Navneet shared her thoughts on the advantages of sharing a dressing room with foreign players and those from different states. She noted that the league cultivates an atmosphere where strong relationships can develop. "Last year, when we had foreign players with us, there was a lot of interaction. Previously, during our visits to other countries, we didn't engage much, but now we have formed friendships," she remarked.
Aiming for a Fresh Start
After a challenging previous season where SG Pipers finished last with just five points, Navneet is optimistic about a turnaround this year. She reflected on the past, stating, "Last season was tough as it was our first. We were unsure about many aspects, but this year we are well-prepared following the auction. We have built a cohesive team, and I believe you will see a strong combination on the field."
Team Cohesion and Emerging Talent
Navneet highlighted the importance of team bonding, both on and off the field. She mentioned that the camaraderie among players, including juniors and foreign teammates, is essential for success. Additionally, she pointed out the presence of several talented young players in the squad, such as Sunelita Toppo, Ishika, Manisha, and Jyoti Singh, who are expected to shine this season. "These players have gained valuable experience from the Junior World Cup and are ready to make an impact," she added.
Focus on National Team After League
Looking ahead, Navneet confirmed that the Indian team's preparations for major international competitions will commence after the league concludes. "We have World Cup qualifiers in Hyderabad, and while the league is ongoing, our focus is here. Once it ends, we will resume our training camp to prepare thoroughly," she stated.
