Naveen Patnaik Accuses Odisha Government of Betraying Farmers
Allegations Against the Odisha Government
Naveen Patnaik, the president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has accused the Odisha government of deceiving farmers, stating that they are forced to spend cold nights under the open sky while trying to sell their rice crops in government markets.
On Saturday, Patnaik took to social media to express his concerns, claiming, "The entire system for purchasing rice in the state has collapsed. Farmers feel exploited and helpless, leading to their disappointment with the government. In freezing temperatures, they are spending nights guarding their hard-earned crops in the markets."
He noted that farmers are now protesting on national highways, demanding a smooth procurement process for their rice.
Patnaik questioned, "When will the government finally purchase the farmers' rice?"
He had made similar accusations the previous day, holding the state government accountable for the difficulties faced by the public due to the 'No PUC, No Fuel' policy.
Patnaik asserted that the state government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has completely failed to implement pollution control certificate (PUC) regulations.
He remarked, "The BJP's double-engine government came to power by making numerous promises to farmers. But have all those promises become meaningless after they took office? From announcing bonuses for rice procurement to giving false hopes to farmers, the government has consistently disappointed them at every turn."
