New Delhi, July 27: On Monday, the nation commemorated the death anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President and esteemed scientist, reflecting on his remarkable contributions to India's defense, space, and missile initiatives.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah honored Dr. Kalam in a post on X, stating: “Today, we pay tribute to the visionary and architect of India’s space and missile programs, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Ji, on his Punyatithi. His brilliance in science paved the way for India to emerge as a strategic power, and his wisdom inspired countless individuals to strive for greatness. Dr. Kalam Ji, the People’s President, will forever be a beacon for patriots.”

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also acknowledged Dr. Kalam’s lasting impact in a post on X, expressing: “On the death anniversary of our former President and esteemed scientist, Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Ji, I extend my heartfelt tributes.”

“Known as the ‘Missile Man’, Dr. Kalam envisioned a developed, self-sufficient, and robust India. His achievements in advancing indigenous missile and space programs are inscribed in the annals of Indian science. He built his life on the principles of knowledge, discipline, simplicity, and national service, inspiring millions of youth to embrace confidence, innovation, and the spirit of nation-building.”

Birla further quoted Dr. Kalam: “'Dreams are not those that come while sleeping; dreams are those that do not let you sleep.' Such insights continue to motivate today’s youth to remain committed to their aspirations.”

Dr. Kalam, affectionately known as the ‘Missile Man of India’, significantly enhanced the nation’s strategic capabilities and inspired countless young Indians through his vision, humility, and dedication to public service. He passed away in 2015 while addressing students in Shillong.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute on X, stating: “On the death anniversary of the ‘Missile Man’ and former President, Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, I offer my humble respects. His contributions to establishing India’s global identity in defense and space science, along with making the nation a nuclear power, are unparalleled. His vision, simplicity, and commitment to national service serve as an inspiration for the youth.”

Dr. Kalam, a Bharat Ratna awardee, is celebrated as one of India’s most revered scientists and leaders. His guidance in the country’s missile and space programs, coupled with his deep rapport with students, earned him the affectionate title of the “People’s President.”
