New Zealand's fast bowler Nathan Smith has been honored as the ICC Men's Player of the Month for June 2026, thanks to his outstanding performances during the ICC World Test Championship. His contributions were crucial in New Zealand's impressive 2-1 Test series victory over England.

Smith outperformed competitors such as Bangladesh's Mossadek Hossain and India's Shubman Gill to secure this esteemed accolade.

Smith's Reaction to the Award

"This is really special. The tour of England was fantastic for the team, and receiving this recognition is quite cool. I typically don't focus on individual accolades, but it's rewarding to be acknowledged for my role in the series win," Smith expressed after receiving the award.

"It was personally fulfilling to contribute to our success. My goal is to do my best for New Zealand and support the team in every possible way," he added.

Dominant Series Performance

The 28-year-old emerged as the top wicket-taker in the series against England, claiming 16 wickets and earning the title of Player of the Series, despite New Zealand's loss in the first Test at Lord's. His remarkable performance included three wickets in the first innings and a career-best 6/70 in the second innings of the opening match.

Although he had only one wicket in the second Test, Smith contributed significantly with a crucial 38 runs, helping New Zealand establish a strong position.

In the decisive third Test, Smith's figures of 4/91 in the first innings provided New Zealand with an essential 82-run lead, and he added two more wickets in the second innings, securing a 2-1 series triumph for the visitors.

With several key bowlers sidelined due to injuries, Smith stepped up as the leader of a weakened bowling unit and delivered exceptional performances.
