Guwahati, Oct 6: The Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll kicked off at 7 am on Tuesday, with voters across the constituency casting their ballots to determine the fate of 15 candidates.
Polling is taking place at 2,112 locations, which includes five auxiliary stations, supported by a deployment of 9,664 polling staff to ensure a smooth process. The voter demographic consists of 9,58,595 males, 9,43,364 females, and 50 individuals identifying as third-gender.
In addition, the administration has established five model polling stations and 335 stations managed by women. To enhance monitoring, webcasting facilities have been set up at all polling locations, and 86 micro-observers have been assigned.
The primary contest is anticipated between BJP's Devasish Sharma, a former deputy commissioner of Nagaon, Congress's Sibamoni Bora, and AIUDF leader Badruddin Ajmal.
Voting will be open until 5 pm. Postal voting for individuals over 85 years old and those with disabilities has already been conducted in accordance with the Representation of the People Act.
Assam's Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Goel, has encouraged all eligible voters to engage in the electoral process and exercise their democratic rights.
