Excitement Surrounds Nagaon Bypoll Nomination Day

Guwahati, Sept 16: The atmosphere in Nagaon was vibrant on nomination day for the Lok Sabha bypoll, characterized by flags, posters, and traditional musical instruments like dhol, khol, taal. Candidates from various political parties paraded through the town before submitting their nomination papers at the District Commissioner's office.

The BJP organized a significant procession for its candidate, Devashish Sharma, who was accompanied by state BJP president Dilip Saikia, Minister Pijush Hazarika, and numerous supporters as they made their way to the nomination site.

Expressing gratitude, Sharma stated, “I feel fortunate and appreciate the people of Nagaon. I seek their support.”

In a show of strength, the Congress party also led a rally for its candidate, Shibamoni Bora, which featured traditional music performances.

Key Congress figures, including APCC chief Gaurav Gogoi, Rakibul Hussain, and Ripun Bora, joined Bora in the procession. “The turnout today indicates that the people are ready to stand against the corrupt BJP. Victory is certain for us,” Bora declared before submitting her nomination.

While the BJP and Congress dominated the day's events, candidates from other parties also made their presence felt. Badaruddin Ajmal, representing the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), acknowledged the challenges but remained optimistic about his chances, urging Akhil Gogoi and his party for support.

“Elections come with challenges. BJP and Congress are similar. I am confident of a significant victory and hope to gain support from Akhil Gogoi and his party (Raijor Dal),” Ajmal remarked.

Abdul Salam, the All India Trinamool Congress candidate, noted that his campaign would gain traction post-nomination. “We will see how the public responds. Our support is varied as we lack a strong local organization. However, our campaign will intensify once the nomination phase concludes,” Salam stated.

With nominations now complete, attention turns to the upcoming phases of the electoral process. Nomination scrutiny is set for Thursday, and candidates have until September 19 to withdraw their nominations. Voting for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll is scheduled for October 6, with vote counting on October 9.
