Kohima, May 23: In light of the ongoing law and order issues in neighboring Manipur, the Nagaland Police have called on residents to uphold peace and communal harmony while remaining vigilant.

Rupin Sharma, the Director General of Police for Nagaland, urged citizens to act with responsibility and avoid sharing unverified information, rumors, or inflammatory content on social media that could incite panic or misunderstandings.

In a statement released on Friday, the police highlighted the dangers of fake information, especially in an era where artificially generated content is prevalent.

Residents are advised to refrain from emotional reactions to external events and to be cautious of rumors or provocative narratives circulating online.

The Nagaland Police reassured the public that they are closely monitoring the situation and have implemented necessary measures to ensure law and order within the state.

Furthermore, the police warned that those who intentionally disseminate false news, rumors, or inflammatory content via social media or other channels will face legal consequences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, and other relevant laws.

The advisory also encouraged the community to stay alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities that could disrupt the social harmony and peaceful coexistence in Nagaland.

Emphasizing that Nagaland has remained peaceful despite tensions in surrounding areas, the police requested cooperation from all community members to maintain harmony.

This advisory was issued during ongoing search operations in Manipur's Kangpokpi district aimed at rescuing individuals still held hostage by armed groups.

Recently, thirty-one out of approximately thirty-eight individuals from the Kuki and Naga communities, who were captured by armed groups in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, were released on May 14 and 15.

These individuals were reportedly taken to undisclosed locations following a violent incident on May 13, where suspected militants killed three church leaders and injured four others in Kangpokpi, while a civilian was shot dead in Noney district.
