Dimapur, Jun 1: Nagaland's Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has reached out via phone to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Union Home Secretary, and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, requesting their immediate assistance in locating and ensuring the safe return of six Naga men who were kidnapped in Manipur.
Rio emphasized the need to identify those behind the abduction and insisted that justice must be served. He noted that the situation has been prioritized by the relevant authorities.
In a letter dated May 30, he informed United Naga Council (UNC) president NG Lohrii about the ongoing efforts by the Nagaland government to secure the release of the abducted individuals, a situation that has sparked significant concern among the Naga community.
During a conversation with Amit Shah on May 29, Rio expressed the profound worry of the Naga populace regarding the incident.
He urged Shah to personally intervene and ensure that the Government of India takes all necessary steps to locate the abducted individuals, bring the offenders to justice, and facilitate their prompt release.
Rio reported that Shah assured him that the issue would be treated with utmost urgency and that all relevant agencies would be mobilized to address the situation effectively.
Additionally, Rio mentioned that he had discussions with the Union Home Secretary and the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, stressing the critical nature of the situation and calling for immediate coordinated action from all involved parties.
“Both have assured me that the matter is being actively pursued,” he stated in his letter.
Rio also urged the UNC to persuade Naga volunteers, who are reportedly holding 14 Kuki individuals, to ensure their safe and unconditional release.
“At this crucial time, it is essential that we adhere to the principles of Christianity, emphasizing compassion, forgiveness, and reconciliation, alongside the Naga tradition of safeguarding innocent lives and maintaining human dignity,” Rio remarked.
