Kolkata, September 6: A shocking incident unfolded in Bakshirhat, located in the Tufanganj community development block of Cooch Behar district, West Bengal, on Sunday. Authorities discovered the bodies of a couple under suspicious circumstances at two separate sites close to their home.

The deceased husband, identified as Sunil Biswas (70), was found inside their residence, while his wife, Janki Biswas (45), was located in dense bushes nearby. Notably, Janki was Sunil's second wife.

Sunil's first wife, Gita Biswas, along with their biological son, Sajal Biswas, resides in the same area but in a different house.

Local police have detained four individuals for questioning regarding the case, although their identities remain undisclosed to maintain the integrity of the investigation. Both Sunil and Janki exhibited injuries consistent with sharp weapon attacks, and their bodies have been sent for autopsy.

A police officer from Cooch Behar stated that upon receiving reports of Sunil's body, officers from Bakshirhat Police Station arrived at the scene, only to find Janki missing at that time.

After initiating a search, her body was eventually discovered just 20 meters from their home, hidden in the underbrush.

The community is in shock over the couple's mysterious deaths. Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple may have been murdered, although the motive remains unclear. The police, led by Additional Superintendent Ricky Agrawal, are actively searching for the murder weapon and other pertinent evidence.

Four individuals have been detained for questioning, but law enforcement is withholding further details to protect the investigation's progress.

Malti Rava Roy, the local BJP legislator and West Bengal's minister of state for women and child welfare, commented on the situation, stating she was aware of the couple's murder but lacked information on the motive. She expressed hope that the police would apprehend the perpetrators swiftly.
