Kolkata, July 29: A man was discovered deceased outside a roadside eatery in the New Town locality on the northern fringes of Kolkata early Wednesday morning, as reported by police officials.
This incident has raised significant alarm among the local community, prompting police to initiate an investigation.
Authorities revealed that the body was found near a well-established food stall close to Ram Mandir in New Town. The stall owner, upon arriving to open for business, noticed an individual lying on the ground. Despite efforts from him and nearby vendors to rouse the man, they received no response, leading them to contact the police.
Officers from the Eco Park police station responded promptly to the scene. They retrieved the body and arranged for a postmortem examination. The identity of the deceased remains unknown at this time.
Police indicated that the precise cause of death will be determined following the autopsy results. Local residents reported visible injuries on the man's forehead, although investigators have not dismissed the possibility that these could have resulted from a fall.
According to a senior officer from the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, "A case has been filed under unnatural death sections, and efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being reviewed to understand how he arrived at the location and if the body was relocated there."
Investigators are also collaborating with other police stations to identify the deceased and trace his movements leading up to the incident.
This occurrence follows the recent discovery of a young man's body in the Dum Dum Park area on July 23, which similarly heightened concerns regarding safety in the vicinity.
