Rise of the Burqa Gang in Muzaffarnagar
The so-called Burqa Gang is becoming increasingly active in Muzaffarnagar, with reports of women in burqas stealing items from stores. Just last Friday, a woman in a burqa was caught on camera taking a demo backpack worth ₹1,600 from outside a shop. The CCTV footage has since gone viral on social media, prompting police to initiate efforts to apprehend the suspect based on the footage.
CCTV Captures the Theft
The incident took place in the busy Gol Market area of the city, where the woman was seen stealing the backpack. Alongside her, other women in burqas were also present. The shopkeeper discovered the theft when checking inventory later that evening and reviewed the CCTV footage, which revealed the Burqa Gang's actions.
Shopkeeper Shares His Experience
Harsh Gulati, the affected shopkeeper, reported that the theft occurred around 3:30 PM. He suspects that the woman was part of a group of three or four individuals who had planned the theft. As soon as he was distracted, she took the bag and concealed it in her belongings. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, he confirmed that the bag, which was intended for demonstration purposes, was indeed taken.
