Hyderabad, May 8: The wife of a retired IPS officer, Vinay Ranjan Ray, was discovered murdered in their home located in the upscale Jubilee Hills area on Friday, according to police reports.

The deceased, identified as Sunanda, aged 55, was found on the first floor of their three-story residence in Prashasan Nagar.

Authorities suspect that the family's recently employed domestic worker, along with her accomplices, may be involved in the crime.

Kalpana, the domestic help from Nepal, is alleged to have smothered Sunanda with the assistance of her associates before fleeing with valuables and cash.

Investigators believe the murder occurred around 2 a.m.

Special task forces have been established to locate the domestic worker and her two accomplices, who are also reported to be from Nepal.

At the time of the incident, Ray, who served as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Andhra Pradesh, was out of town, leaving Sunanda alone in their section of the house while their children occupied the upper floors.

It is alleged that the domestic worker facilitated the entry of her two associates into the home, where they bound the victim's hands and suffocated her by stuffing cash into her mouth.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar confirmed to the media that the cause of death was suffocation.

A forensic team has gathered evidence from the crime scene, and the Jubilee Hills police have initiated an investigation.

Director General of Police C. V. Anand, along with other senior officials, visited the site of the crime.

Sajjanar stated that the investigation is progressing based on the evidence collected, indicating that a gang from Nepal may have orchestrated this murder for financial gain.

This incident has sent shockwaves through Prashasan Nagar, an area known to house many IPS and IAS officers.

The Police Commissioner urged residents to exercise caution when hiring Nepali domestic workers and to take necessary precautions if they have already employed them.

He noted that similar gangs have been implicated in crimes in major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru.

Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender visited the residence of the former IPS officer to offer his condolences and expressed confidence that the police would apprehend the suspects soon.
