Murder Investigation Launched After Indian Man Stabbed in London
Tragic Incident in West London
A 26-year-old Indian national has tragically lost his life following a stabbing incident in west London, leading to a murder investigation by the Metropolitan Police. The deceased, Gurbhej Singh, originally from Mehdipur village in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, was discovered with a knife wound after authorities responded to reports of a stabbing in Southall shortly after midnight on June 10.
Police were alerted to the situation on North Road, close to its intersection with Dormers Wells Lane, around 00:40 BST. Two individuals sustained injuries during the altercation; Singh was declared dead at the scene, while another man in his 30s was hospitalized but later released.
In connection with the incident, seven men were apprehended on suspicion of murder. Six of these individuals have been released without charges, while one remains on bail as investigations continue. Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell stated that inquiries into the circumstances of the attack are ongoing.
According to police, Singh was attacked outside a shop at the junction of North Road and Dormers Wells Lane around 00:30 local time. DCI Foxwell urged anyone with CCTV footage from the area or witnesses who have not yet contacted the police to come forward.
Singh relocated to the UK in 2022 after completing his education in India. Reports indicate that his family invested approximately Rs 24 lakh through an immigration agent to facilitate his move. His father, Mukhtiar Singh, is a farmer in Tarn Taran district. In light of this tragedy, a fundraising initiative has been established to assist Singh's family and aid in repatriating his body to India. Family members have also reached out to Indian authorities for help in bringing his remains back home.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the murder investigation is still active.
