Tamulpur, Sept 5: In a shocking incident, a 52-year-old man was reportedly murdered and buried in his backyard, leading to police exhuming his body on Saturday in Assam's Tamulpur district, with an executive magistrate present.

The tragic event took place on September 2 in Dongargaon, under the jurisdiction of the Nagrijuli Police Outpost.

Authorities identified the victim as Parama Deka, who was allegedly killed by his 15-year-old son, accused of using a machete during the attack.

Additionally, the boy's mother, Purabi Deka, is believed to have assisted in burying the body to hide the crime.

The situation came to light on Friday when Purabi and her son turned themselves in at the Nagrijuli Police Outpost, prompting an investigation that led to the exhumation of the body the following day.

“I received a call about Parama's murder and burial. Upon arriving, I searched for his wife and son, thinking they had gone to her father's house. Later, I learned they had surrendered to the police,” stated the victim's brother.

Initial reports suggest that the minor may have acted out of alleged mental distress and family harassment, although police are still working to clarify the motives and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Local residents expressed surprise, stating they had not observed any significant family disputes. “He was a good person, and there seemed to be no issues. We are puzzled as to why this happened,” remarked a neighbor.

Further complicating the case, Parama's elder siblings have raised concerns regarding the presence of his father-in-law, Dimba Kalita, at the home on the day of the murder. They allege that Kalita, who seldom visited, had threatened Parama about a week prior to the incident.

“My brother might still be alive if he hadn’t come here on September 2. His visit raises many questions,” the victim's brother added.

The family is calling for a comprehensive investigation into the murder and the surrounding circumstances.

“The accused have surrendered, and justice must be served,” the victim's brother emphasized.

Police continue to probe the details of the alleged murder, including the motives and the claims made by the victim's family regarding the potential involvement of his father-in-law.
