Mumbai, May 8: Authorities have detained a 45-year-old school peon in connection with allegations of inappropriate touching involving a six-year-old student in the Govandi locality of Mumbai, Maharashtra. This incident, which occurred at a well-regarded local educational institution, has ignited significant public outrage and raised critical concerns about the safety of students.

As reported by the Mumbai Police, the young victim found the courage to share his distressing experience with his family after returning home from school. Recognizing the seriousness of the matter, his family promptly took him to the Govandi Police Station to file an official complaint. In response, law enforcement acted swiftly, apprehending the accused shortly thereafter.

The police have initiated a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the school and interviewing staff members to piece together the events that transpired. Meanwhile, parents of other students have voiced their deep concerns regarding the school's ability to ensure a safe environment, calling for more rigorous background checks for non-teaching personnel.

This arrest comes on the heels of another harassment case in the city. On April 26, a 24-year-old named Ashraf was taken into custody by Mumbai Police for allegedly stalking and sexually harassing a 19-year-old former colleague. The victim, who had previously worked at a telecalling firm, reported that she had never interacted with Ashraf during her time there.

According to her account, Ashraf acquired her phone number from an office WhatsApp group after her resignation and began sending her inappropriate messages, explicit photos, and videos. Despite her repeated warnings to cease contact, the harassment intensified. The victim further claimed that Ashraf pressured her into an interfaith relationship, asserting that "Hindu women are attracted to Muslim men" and even offered to wear a 'Kalava' (sacred Hindu thread) or visit temples to gain her trust.

Following her formal complaint, police acted quickly to apprehend the suspect. These recent incidents have sparked a broader conversation in Mumbai about the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in workplaces and educational settings to safeguard minors from potential predators.
