Mumbai, June 29: After an extensive three-day search, authorities in Mahim have apprehended a suspect involved in a knife attack on a 35-year-old man named Naveen Prasanna, which occurred outside the Mahim Railway Station following a minor dispute.

The suspect, a 19-year-old identified as Anas Ansari, was taken into custody in the Wadala area of Mumbai. The police are still on the lookout for the knife used in the assault, which remains missing.

A senior police official reported that the arrest was facilitated by reviewing footage from over 100 CCTV cameras to track the suspect's movements.

Using the surveillance data, police located Ansari in Wadala, where he was arrested. Investigators discovered that he had allegedly disposed of the knife after the incident. Efforts are ongoing to locate the weapon, and Ansari is currently being interrogated.

Ansari had been evading capture since the violent event, which transpired on the night of June 25. Police records indicate that he hails from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Charges have been filed against him under Sections 109(1), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The victim, Naveen Prasanna, resides in Qureshi Mahal Compound on Pitambar Lane in Mahim and works as an office boy in a private firm located in Lower Parel.

On the night of June 25, around 10 p.m., Prasanna was heading home after work, having traveled from Lower Parel to Mahim via a local train. While navigating the station area, he accidentally collided with another individual, causing the latter's mobile phone to drop.

Despite Prasanna's immediate apology for the unintentional bump, the suspect reportedly became furious, pursued him, and attacked him with a knife. Prasanna suffered severe injuries and was transported to Sion Hospital for treatment.

This incident follows another alarming case from June 22, where a 22-year-old named Mayank Lohar was fatally stabbed inside a moving local train after a dispute regarding whether the coach door should remain open during heavy rain.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) reported that Lohar and the suspect, Roshan Suvarna, boarded the train at Andheri station. The argument escalated while traveling between Andheri and Borivali stations, leading Suvarna to allegedly stab Lohar in the abdomen, resulting in critical injuries. The 30-year-old suspect was later arrested in Kurla after a citywide manhunt involving six Railway Police teams.
