Mumbai, April 16: A troubling case has emerged from the Chembur locality of Mumbai, where a man named Asgar Samsuddin Ansari has been detained for allegedly stalking and molesting young girls.

As reported by the Chembur Police, the suspect targeted girls aged 12 while they were playing in a nearby housing complex. Following a complaint, law enforcement acted promptly to arrest the individual.

Authorities at the Chembur Police Station have filed charges against Ansari under Sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), in addition to relevant sections of the POCSO Act. The accused is currently in custody as investigations continue.

Further information is pending.

This incident follows another alarming case reported on April 15, where a man was arrested in Maharashtra's Amravati district for allegedly sexually exploiting around 180 minor girls and recording over 350 explicit videos.

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Ayaz, also known as Tanveer, reportedly lured minors into a "love trap" before transporting them to cities like Mumbai and Pune, where he is believed to have filmed inappropriate videos.

Investigators revealed that these videos were used to blackmail the victims, coercing them into prostitution, with some footage allegedly shared online.

Details from a memorandum submitted by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde to the Superintendent of Police, Rural, Vishal Anand, indicated that the accused systematically targeted minors via social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Snapchat.

The MP threatened to organize protests outside the SP's office if a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was not established to investigate the matter.

In response, police quickly apprehended the suspect, who has been remanded to seven days of custody. His mobile device has been confiscated, revealing numerous explicit videos currently under examination as part of the investigation.

Authorities are probing whether the suspect shared these videos with accomplices or a larger criminal network. The Cyber Cell is actively involved in tracking and analyzing any potentially circulated content online.

The case has ignited significant outrage in Paratwada and surrounding regions, leading to protests from various organizations and political factions expressing their discontent over the extent of the alleged offenses.

A complete shutdown was observed in Paratwada in reaction to the incident, with a heavy police presence deployed to ensure public safety.

During the investigation, four additional suspects have also been detained, suggesting the possibility of a broader network involved in these crimes.

Public anger has also spread to Achalpur in Amravati district following reports that the accused had repeatedly posted videos showcasing the exploitation of young women on social media.

In light of the outrage, civic authorities have begun actions against alleged encroachments associated with the accused.

In the presence of BJP MLA Pravin Tayade, bulldozers were utilized on Wednesday to demolish structures built on encroached land linked to him.
