Mumbai Launches Inaugural Season of Indian Super Gaming League
Mumbai Hosts First Qualifier for ISGL
The Indian Super Gaming League (ISGL) commenced its nationwide qualifier series in Mumbai this past weekend, marking the beginning of its inaugural season. This event showcased the first group of gamers who will represent Mumbai City FC in the league.
Taking place at NESCO in Mumbai, the qualifier attracted participants from all over the country, all vying for a chance to transition from open competition to the franchise format of ISGL. The winners from this Mumbai event will advance as representatives of Mumbai City FC, ultimately competing in the ISGL Grand Finale in Vizag, where city franchises nationwide will vie for the championship.
Diverse Gaming Competition Format
The Mumbai qualifier featured competitions across four gaming titles: Call of Duty Mobile, Chess, FC 26, and Cricket 26. This multi-genre format is designed to evaluate players' skills in tactical, strategic, and sports gaming disciplines. The champions from each title will secure their spots in the Mumbai City FC lineup for the national competition.
These city qualifiers represent the initial phase of the ISGL season, where gamers register from their local areas and compete before advancing to represent their franchises on a national level. At the Grand Finale, nine city teams will engage in a league-plus-knockout format, with the championship awarded based on the highest cumulative performance across all four titles.
Founders Discuss Gaming Culture Growth
Santanu Basu, Co-Founder of ISGL, remarked that the turnout at the Mumbai qualifier illustrates the growth of gaming culture in India. He stated, "Gaming culture in India has rapidly evolved over the last decade, transforming from a casual pastime into a serious competitive endeavor supported by vibrant communities and skilled players. The enthusiasm we observed in Mumbai reflects this transformation. Through ISGL, we aim to create a structured platform that celebrates this culture and enables talented gamers to represent their cities on a national level."
Gautam Badalia, another Co-Founder of ISGL, emphasized the league's goal of establishing a more organized and sustainable competitive framework for the industry. He noted, "India's gaming sector is entering a significant growth phase, bolstered by increasing participation, enhanced infrastructure, and rising commercial interest. ISGL is designed as a franchise-led competition that unites established sports brands, emerging gaming talent, and industry partners in a format that promotes the long-term development of the ecosystem."
A Celebration of Gaming and Entertainment
The Mumbai qualifier also created a festive atmosphere for fans, merging competitive gaming with entertainment and creator engagement. The event featured live performances by artists such as Ritviz, EPR Iyer, and Karma, while comedians Anubhav Singh Bassi and Tanmay Bhat, along with host Ocean Sharma, contributed to an evening filled with enjoyment. Notable gaming creators like Vanshaj Singh and ShreeMan LegenD also participated, interacting with fans and celebrating the launch of the league's first city qualifier.
In addition to the thrilling matches across the four titles, fan activities, cosplay showcases, and dedicated gaming zones ensured robust community engagement, setting the stage for the nationwide ISGL qualifier circuit as it prepares to move to other cities across the country.
ISGL Qualifier Circuit Expands Nationwide
The Mumbai event serves as the kickoff for the ISGL qualifier circuit, which will continue to cities such as Dimapur, Goa, Chennai, Kochi, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, and Vizag. Winners from each city will represent their respective franchises at the ISGL Grand Finale in Visakhapatnam later this year.
