The finals of the Mumbai Indians Junior Season 6 reached a thrilling conclusion as Anjuman-I-Islam Allana English School (Boys U-16), Modern English School (Girls U-15), and VK Krishna Menon Academy (U-14) all celebrated victory at the MIG Cricket Club in Bandra on Tuesday.
Mahela Jayawardene Inspires Young Athletes
Mahela Jayawardene, the Head Coach of Mumbai Indians, commended the sixth edition of MI Junior, emphasizing the significance of enjoying sports at a young age. During the closing ceremony in Bandra, he urged participants to draw inspiration from the iconic venue to enhance their skills and aim to represent Mumbai Indians in the future. He stated, "This is our sixth year of organizing MI Junior, and it becomes more thrilling each time. Sports is about participation, and at this age, enjoying the competition is paramount. Today, we are at a historic venue where many Indian cricketers began their careers. I noticed some iconic photographs in the dressing rooms, and I know that Hardik Pandya also practiced here in his early days. This is an excellent starting point for you to challenge yourselves and hopefully wear the Mumbai colors one day."
Dramatic U-16 Final Match
In the U-16 final, Anjuman-I-Islam Allana English School batted first and showcased their batting prowess, with most players scoring over 20 runs. However, none could convert their starts into big scores, except for skipper Yuvan Sharma, who delivered a spectacular performance with 52 runs off just 20 balls, leading his team to a formidable total of 253 runs in 30 overs.
On the other hand, Sitaram Prakash High School's chase relied heavily on opener Aayush Shete, who played a remarkable innings, scoring a century. Despite losing wickets at the other end, Shete's exceptional class and composure under pressure saw him score an impressive 155 runs. Unfortunately for Sitaram Prakash High School, they fell short by just 3 runs, allowing Anjuman-I-Islam Allana English School to secure their second U-16 title after being runners-up in the previous edition.
