Mumbai Braces for High Tides: 24 Occurrences Expected This Monsoon

Mumbai is gearing up for an eventful monsoon season with 24 high tide occurrences expected, including a significant wave height forecasted for mid-June. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has issued warnings for residents to avoid beach areas during these high tides. Additionally, the city recently experienced pre-monsoon rainfall, bringing much-needed relief from the heat. Stay informed about the weather updates and safety measures as the monsoon approaches.
 

High Tides Forecasted in Mumbai

Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Thursday that Mumbai will experience over 24 high tide occurrences exceeding 4.5 meters this monsoon season. This includes a significant period from June 14 to June 19, lasting six days. According to the BMC, these high tides will occur six times in both June and July, five times in August, and seven times in September. The first wave of high tides is anticipated between June 14 and June 19, with wave heights ranging from 4.64 meters to 4.87 meters. The highest tide of the season is expected on July 16, with waves potentially reaching 4.89 meters.


Warnings for Residents

The BMC has advised residents to avoid beach areas during high tide events and to strictly adhere to warnings issued periodically. Last year, the BMC urged the public to stay away from the city's beaches due to the forecast of waves reaching heights of 4.96 meters. Following the municipal directive, waves of 4.96 meters were recorded in Mumbai at 11:52 PM on Thursday. Residents, particularly those in low-lying coastal areas, have been advised to exercise caution.


Pre-Monsoon Rainfall in Mumbai

Last Sunday morning, Mumbai experienced widespread pre-monsoon rainfall, providing relief from the heat and humidity that had gripped the city in recent days. Various parts of Mumbai, including the island city, western suburbs, and eastern suburbs, witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall, with reports of waterlogging in some areas. Neighboring Navi Mumbai also experienced significant rainfall.
