Guwahati, July 5: In a moment of pride for both Assam and India, Mrigashree Baruah was honored with an invitation as a special guest at the National Arts Festival in Makhanda, South Africa, which took place from June 25 to July 5, as per a press release.
Baruah stood out as the sole Indian woman representing the country at this prestigious global event celebrating literature and the performing arts. Throughout the festival, she interacted with African media and took part in discussions that focused on human well-being and the significance of art as a vital tool for fostering global peace, dialogue, and cultural connections.
She articulated that art possesses a remarkable capacity to cross boundaries, nurture empathy, and bring together individuals from various backgrounds.
A multifaceted individual, Baruah is a public speaker, pageant titleholder, performing artist, painter, and law student from Assam. She attributes her upbringing in Assam's vibrant artistic and cultural landscape, along with India's core values of diversity, harmony, and the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—meaning “the world is one family”—as key influences on her perspective and her voice on international platforms.
As the 1st Runner Up of Miss Grand India 2026, she continues to leverage her platform to foster cultural exchange, champion social causes, and highlight the transformative essence of art. Her involvement in the National Arts Festival signifies a pivotal achievement, showcasing the cultural wealth of Assam and the creative spirit of India on an international stage.
“Where there is hope, there is life,” she concluded one of her media engagements at Rhodes University, echoing the sentiment that hope, divinity, and creativity know no boundaries and serve as a conduit to life.
