MP CM Mohan Yadav Criticizes Mamata Banerjee Over Protocol Breach
Controversy Surrounds President Murmu's Visit to West Bengal
Bhopal/Jaypur, March 8, 2026: The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Mohan Yadav, has sharply criticized the West Bengal government and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for an alleged breach of protocol involving President Droupadi Murmu. He described the incident as an example of a 'disgraceful mentality' and demanded an immediate public apology from Banerjee. This controversy arose during the President's attendance at the 9th International Santhal Conference in Bidhannagar, near Siliguri, where she was not formally welcomed.
In a statement released from Bhopal, CM Mohan Yadav remarked, "The behavior exhibited by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Bengal is utterly condemnable. The position of the President, who holds the highest office in our democracy, should be respected above politics. During an official visit, the Chief Minister should have ensured that the President's dignity was upheld. This is a disgraceful mentality and shameful for the Bengal government. I expect Mamata Banerjee to take this matter seriously and apologize immediately."
President Murmu openly expressed her displeasure from the stage, noting that the venue had been changed, several tribal members were unable to attend, and neither the Chief Minister nor any ministers were present to welcome her. In a light-hearted manner, she commented, "Perhaps Mamata didi is upset with me." The central government has also taken a firm stance on the issue, with the Home Ministry requesting a detailed report from the Chief Secretary of West Bengal by 5 PM, addressing lapses such as the lack of a welcome at the airport, litter along the route, and water shortages in restrooms. Prime Minister Narendra Modi labeled the incident as an "insult to the Constitution."
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has dismissed these allegations as a political conspiracy, asserting that protocol was followed. In response, Mamata Banerjee questioned, "Why is the BJP silent about the atrocities against tribals in BJP-ruled states?" The situation has escalated into a political dispute, with the BJP framing it as an insult to the President, while the opposition claims it is being politicized.
