On June 2, Raja's body was discovered near a waterfall in Sohra, Meghalaya. An autopsy revealed that he had suffered multiple blows to the head from a sharp weapon.

Investigations revealed that Sonam had conspired with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, to eliminate Raja. The honeymoon trip was allegedly part of this murder plot.
