Protests Mark the Opening of the Monsoon Session

New Delhi: The first day of the monsoon session in the Rajya Sabha was marred by repeated adjournments due to protests from Opposition parties regarding police actions against students involved in demonstrations over the NEET exam paper leak.

The Upper House ended its session without conducting any official business as Congress and other opposition members called for accountability regarding the leaked medical entrance examination papers.

Upon reconvening, Deputy Chairman Harivansh addressed the members, sharing insights from the Business Advisory Committee's meeting earlier that day, which outlined the schedule for government legislative activities.

Despite the Deputy Chairman's requests for order, opposition members continued to chant slogans, prompting him to remind them of the need for decorum.

Harivansh emphasized the importance of dialogue and urged members to engage in constructive debate, noting that no progress had been made since the morning.

As the disruptions persisted, he decided to adjourn the House for thirty minutes until 2:30 PM.
