Mohan Bhagwat Discusses India's Cultural Identity and Ram Temple Construction
Significant Insights on Cultural Identity
On Monday, Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), shared crucial thoughts regarding India's cultural identity and the construction of the Ram Temple during an event held at Reshimbag in Nagpur. This ceremony, organized by the Dr. Hedgewar Memorial Committee, highlighted that there is no formal need to declare India as a 'Hindu nation' since it has always embodied the essence of a Hindu nation in its nature and spirit.
Honoring Contributors to the Temple
According to an RSS statement, Bhagwat addressed the gathering honoring individuals whose leadership and guidance facilitated the temple's construction. He emphasized that the temple was built in accordance with Lord Ram's wishes, drawing a parallel to Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill, stating that such monumental tasks are only achievable through collective effort.
He referenced the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, noting that when the new government took oath under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a London newspaper remarked that India had truly bid farewell to British rule on that day.
Reflections on Leadership and National Identity
Bhagwat questioned whether the construction of the Ram Temple would have been possible without committed leadership. He pointed out that there was a time when referring to India as a Hindu nation was seen as a joke. Today, he noted, those same individuals acknowledge that India is indeed the land of Hindus.
He mentioned that while many urge the RSS to officially declare India a Hindu nation, the organization believes there is no need to announce what is already a truth.
Evolving Perspectives on 'Hindu Nation'
Mohan Bhagwat also commented on the changing mindset of society. He highlighted the transition from ridicule to acceptance regarding the notion of India as a 'Hindu nation.'
From Mockery to Acceptance: There was a time when calling India a 'Hindu nation' was considered a joke, especially before the temple's construction.
Proclamation of Truth: Today, those who once laughed at this claim now recognize that India is the land of Hindus.
No Need for Declaration: Responding to calls for an official declaration of India as a Hindu nation, Bhagwat firmly stated, 'What is already true does not need to be declared repeatedly.'
Celebrating Cultural Roots
The event at Reshimbag was dedicated to honoring the artisans and guides who played a role in the temple's construction. Bhagwat's address not only celebrated the success of the temple's construction but also served as a call to recognize India's cultural roots and its essence. According to him, the existence of the temple symbolizes the resurgence of India's self-respect and ancient identity.
