Clarifying the Role of RSS

Kolkata: On Sunday, Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), addressed a gathering at the Science City auditorium in Kolkata, emphasizing that there are prevalent misconceptions about the organization among certain groups.

During the centenary celebrations of the RSS, Bhagwat made it clear that the Sangh does not consider anyone as an enemy.

He advocated for enhanced unity among Hindus and cautioned against confusing the RSS with the BJP, asserting that the primary aim of the Sangh is to foster unity and solidarity within the Hindu community.

Bhagwat remarked, “The Sangh is frequently misunderstood. While many recognize the name, few comprehend the organization's mission. The RSS is solely focused on the upliftment of Hindu society and does not harbor animosity. Although the growth of the Sangh may threaten the interests of some, it has no adversaries.”

He pointed out that politics is often wrongly associated with the Sangh, stating, “While it is true that numerous BJP leaders are affiliated with the RSS, it is incorrect to merge the two. The RSS operates without a conflict-driven mindset, concentrating instead on the welfare of Hindu society.”

Bhagwat warned that the growth of the organization could lead to the closure of businesses driven by narrow interests. He mentioned that to clarify the organization's objectives, lecture and interaction sessions have been organized in four cities across the nation. He reiterated that the RSS does not pursue any political agenda, focusing instead on the enhancement and protection of Hindu society.

The RSS chief expressed optimism that India would once again become a ‘Vishwaguru’ and highlighted the Sangh's responsibility to prepare society for this goal.

In his message aimed at unifying the Hindu community, Bhagwat stressed the importance of reconnecting with forgotten roots.

He also acknowledged notable Bengali figures such as Swami Vivekananda, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Bhagwat particularly praised Raja Ram Mohan Roy, aligning his sentiments with those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. He stated, “Ram Mohan Roy dedicated his life to social reform. The movement for social reform began in his era, and the RSS aims to continue that legacy.”
