Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

Investigation Launched by PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently investigating all-rounder Mohammed Nawaz after reports surfaced regarding a positive drug test for recreational substances, as reported by a sports news outlet. As a result, Nawaz's contract with Surrey and his participation in the upcoming T20 Blast tournament have been jeopardized. He is a key player in Pakistan's white-ball cricket setup, especially in T20 internationals.

PCB Confirms the Investigation

A representative from the PCB stated, "The International Cricket Council (ICC) has notified us about this situation, and we have initiated the necessary procedures. We will inform the ICC of our findings today."

Surrey Contract Falls Through

The positive test result reportedly originated from screenings conducted during the T20 World Cup, which took place in India and Sri Lanka from February to March this year. Pakistan participated in all seven matches until their exit in the Super Eight stage. During the tournament, Nawaz had a modest performance, scoring 15 runs and claiming seven wickets.

Nawaz had previously secured a deal with Surrey to play in the T20 Blast from May 26 to June 18. The PCB had issued a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for him, and Surrey was set to announce him as their latest signing this week. However, with the current developments, Surrey has yet to release a statement regarding the situation.

Current Performance in PSL

Despite the ongoing investigation, Nawaz is performing well in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), having taken six wickets in eight matches with an average of 32.66. He also bowled three wicketless overs in a recent six-wicket win against Rawalpindi in Karachi.

ICC's Stance

As of now, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has not issued any comments regarding the investigation.
