Upcoming Kerala Assembly Elections
The Kerala Assembly elections are scheduled for April 9, 2026, with vote counting commencing on May 4. The current assembly's term will conclude on May 23. On March 31, the BJP unveiled its election manifesto, outlining a comprehensive plan for the state's development upon coming to power. This manifesto includes initiatives for region-specific economic growth and welfare programs aimed at women and underprivileged families.
Vision for Kerala's Development
The manifesto aims to position Kerala as a preferred global tourist destination while developing its cities into unique economic hubs. It proposes designating Thiruvananthapuram as the capital for IT and innovation, Kochi as India's shipbuilding center, Kozhikode as a hub for healthcare and medical innovation, Thrissur as the capital for cultural tourism, Kollam as an internationally competitive blue economy cluster focusing on marine exports, and Kannur as a center for defense innovation. The party anticipates that these regional centers will generate significant employment opportunities.
Welfare Initiatives for Women
Regarding welfare programs, the BJP promises a 'Bhakshya Arogya Suraksha Card' for needy women, which includes a monthly recharge of ₹2,500 for medicines and groceries. The manifesto also proposes establishing an AIIMS in Kerala and developing a high-speed railway network connecting Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur.
