Modi Congratulates Nepal's Rastriya Swatantra Party Leaders on Election Wins

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rabi Lamichhane and Balendra Shah of Nepal's Rastriya Swatantra Party on their electoral victories. In a series of warm phone calls, he expressed India's commitment to collaborate for the mutual prosperity of both nations. With the RSP's significant performance in the elections, they are expected to secure a substantial number of seats in the House of Representatives, surpassing the majority threshold. This development is seen as a promising step towards strengthening India-Nepal relations.
 

Prime Minister Modi's Conversations with Nepalese Leaders


On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Rabi Lamichhane and Balendra Shah, leaders of Nepal's Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), to extend his congratulations on their electoral success. During these phone calls, PM Modi expressed India's eagerness to collaborate with Nepal for the mutual benefit and advancement of both nations. He conveyed optimism that the India-Nepal partnership would achieve new milestones in the years ahead.


In a post shared on 'X', Modi stated, "Had warm telephone conversations with Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the RSP, and Balendra Shah, Senior Leader of the RSP." He emphasized the importance of their electoral victories and the RSP's significant performance in the recent elections.



Modi also shared his best wishes for the new government that will be formed and reiterated India's commitment to work alongside Nepal for shared prosperity and progress.


The House of Representatives in Nepal consists of 275 seats, with 165 members elected via the First Past The Post (FPTP) system and 110 through proportional representation. As of now, results for 161 of the 165 FPTP seats have been announced, with the remaining four expected to be revealed shortly.


In the proportional representation segment, the RSP has garnered 4,049,604 votes, leading over the Nepali Congress (NC) with 1,360,281 votes, followed by the CPN-UML with 1,150,679 votes, the NCP with 591,940 votes, the Shram Sanskriti Party with 291,965 votes, the Janata Samajwadi Party with 116,463 votes, and the Rastriya Parivartan Party with 276,931 votes. With over 4 million votes in this category, the RSP is projected to secure at least 40 additional seats, potentially raising its total to around 164 in the 275-member House, surpassing the 138 needed for a simple majority, according to political analysts.
