Modi and Trump Set for Key Bilateral Talks at G7 Summit in France
Significant Bilateral Meeting Ahead
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump are poised to engage in a crucial bilateral discussion during the G7 Summit in France, as confirmed by a senior official from the US administration. This meeting comes at a pivotal moment for India-US relations, with ongoing dialogues about strategic partnerships and the anticipated trade agreement. The agenda is expected to cover energy collaboration, H-1B visa regulations, regional security matters, and the shifting dynamics in West Asia.
These discussions follow India's strong condemnation of recent US military actions against commercial vessels in the Gulf of Oman, which resulted in the deaths of three Indian sailors aboard the Palau-flagged tanker MT Settebello, along with attacks on two other ships with Indian crews.
Trump's Itinerary in France
As for President Trump's itinerary, senior US officials have outlined that he will leave the White House early on Monday morning (June 15) to attend the G7 summit. During his time in France, he plans to meet with other G7 leaders to tackle significant issues such as economic growth, supply chain resilience, illegal immigration, and advancements in artificial intelligence. Furthermore, Trump aims to collaborate with G7 partners to enhance the resilience of critical mineral supply chains, thereby promoting economic security and addressing challenges related to illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
Upon his arrival in France, Trump will first meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, followed by a formal greeting and working dinner with G7 leaders on Tuesday morning. He will also engage in a working session with G7 leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and later hold bilateral meetings with the Emir of Qatar and the President of the United Arab Emirates, amid the ongoing conflict with Iran in the Middle East.
