Modi Advocates for Dialogue to Mitigate West Asia Conflicts
Prime Minister Modi's Call for Diplomacy
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized to French President Emmanuel Macron the urgent need for dialogue and diplomacy to alleviate ongoing conflicts in West Asia. Modi expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Macron to promote peace and stability in the region and beyond. He stated, "I discussed with my dear friend, President Emmanuel Macron, the pressing need to address the situation in West Asia and the importance of returning to dialogue and diplomacy. We are keen to continue our close coordination to foster peace and stability in the region."
Macron's Response to Regional Tensions
These remarks from Modi followed Macron's condemnation of attacks on Iranian energy facilities in the Gulf, which he labeled as reckless warfare. Upon arriving for EU talks in Brussels, Macron warned that the destruction of energy production capabilities could have long-lasting repercussions. He called for direct discussions between the Americans and Iranians regarding the issue, although Iran quickly criticized his stance on the conflict, accusing him of failing to condemn Israeli and American actions while expressing concern over potential Iranian retaliation.
Discussions with Regional Leaders
Earlier, Modi also engaged in discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, focusing on the situation in West Asia. The conversations among the three leaders underscored their support for reducing conflict in the region and restoring peace and stability thereafter. During separate phone calls with the Sultan of Oman and the Malaysian Prime Minister, Modi highlighted the necessity for safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
