Modi Advocates Alliance with Telangana for Greater Benefits

In a recent address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi humorously suggested that Telangana would benefit more by forming an alliance with the central government rather than remaining politically isolated. His remarks came after the Chief Minister's comments on the potential for a 'Telangana model' to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2034. Modi emphasized the importance of reviving the textile industry and highlighted significant investments in infrastructure, including a doubling of the national highway network and substantial railway projects in the state. This call for collaboration aims to enhance economic growth and development in Telangana.

Prime Minister Modi's Remarks on Telangana's Political Landscape

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a humorous yet politically charged comment directed at Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, suggesting that the state would gain more by aligning with the central government rather than remaining politically isolated. Speaking at a public gathering after inaugurating projects in Telangana, Modi stated, "I want to tell K. Chandrashekar Rao that I am willing to offer you what the Gujarat government received during my ten years in office, but be aware that as soon as I do, what you currently receive will be halved. You won't achieve your goals this way. Therefore, it’s better to form an alliance with me."

Context of the Remarks

This statement followed comments made by the Telangana Chief Minister, who had previously remarked that during Manmohan Singh's tenure as Prime Minister and Modi's time as Gujarat's Chief Minister, Modi developed a 'Gujarat model' over more than a decade. Rao expressed hopes that under Modi's leadership, Telangana could also develop a similar model to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2034.

Focus on Economic Development

During his address in Telangana, Modi emphasized the significant role of the textile industry when India was among the world's leading economies. He assured that the government is working to revive and strengthen this legacy. Modi highlighted that the PM Mitra Park in Warangal would catalyze a new textile revolution in the country. He also pointed out that enhancing infrastructure has been a top priority for the central government over the past decade, with unprecedented investments in roads, railways, airports, and other transport systems to bolster connectivity across India.

Investment in Telangana's Infrastructure

The Prime Minister noted that the national highway network in Telangana has doubled in the last eleven years. Stressing the importance of energy security, he mentioned that the government is making substantial investments in this sector, with India emerging as one of the leading countries in solar energy production in recent years. Regarding railway development, Modi pointed out that during the undivided Andhra Pradesh era, the railway budget for the region was less than ₹1,000 crore, whereas Telangana now receives approximately ₹5,500 crore in railway allocations. He further stated that around ₹50,000 crore worth of railway projects are currently underway in the state.
