Bengaluru, Aug 12: During a six-hour search operation by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), a mobile phone was discovered in the barrack of Prajwal Revanna, a former MP from Hassan, who is currently serving a life sentence related to a rape and sex video case at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

Prajwal is the grandson of H.D. Deve Gowda, a former Prime Minister, and the son of JD(S) MLA H.D. Revanna.

The raid, which took place on Tuesday, targeted the barracks of several high-profile inmates, including actor Darshan and his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda, resulting in the seizure of approximately ten mobile phones, chargers, and a pen drive.

The presence of a mobile phone in Prajwal's barrack has sparked renewed scrutiny regarding security measures and the potential VIP treatment of influential prisoners within the facility.

The Android device was reportedly concealed beneath Prajwal Revanna’s bed, where he shares the barrack with another inmate, Pratap Rai. Following this discovery, the Parappana Agrahara police filed an FIR and initiated an investigation to determine how the prohibited item was smuggled into the prison and who had access to it.

Pratap Rai has been identified as accused No. 1, while Prajwal Revanna is accused No. 2 in this matter. Authorities are probing whether the mobile phone was utilized by either Prajwal or Rai.

The CCB's extensive search lasted nearly six hours, focusing on the barracks of various VIP prisoners amid rising concerns about the presence of contraband items within the prison.

In response to the incident, DGP Alok Kumar has mandated disciplinary measures against prison staff. Assistant Superintendent Eeranna Rangapur has been suspended for alleged negligence, and Jail Superintendent Anshu Kumar has received a show-cause notice regarding the security failures.

There are also concerns regarding Prajwal's compliance with prison regulations, as he was reportedly not wearing the mandated white prison uniform. This latest incident has intensified inquiries into whether he is receiving special privileges while incarcerated.

This event follows a previous search conducted on August 6, during which no mobile phone was found in Prajwal's possession. After the recent recovery, officials have been instructed to investigate how the phone arrived in his barrack and who facilitated its entry.

Authorities have indicated that if the source of the mobile phone remains unidentified, Prajwal may be relocated to a different barrack.

This incident has once again highlighted the ongoing issues of security and monitoring within Bengaluru Central Prison, which has faced previous allegations of preferential treatment for high-profile inmates.
