Stalin's Disappointment with the Budget

Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK leader, MK Stalin, expressed his discontent on Wednesday regarding the inaugural budget presented by the TVK-led government. He criticized it for lacking innovative ideas and described it as entirely ineffective. Stalin remarked that expectations were high for this budget, but it ultimately fell short of delivering any substantial outcomes. He took to social media to label the budget as a mere 'remake version' of the Dravidian model government's initiatives.

He further stated, "The first budget of the 'reel government' has been utterly disappointing—there's no fresh thinking, it has failed to fulfill promises, and is completely bland."

Failure to Address Key Issues

Stalin pointed out that the budget presented in the Tamil Nadu Assembly failed to tackle critical issues affecting farmers and the rising inflation. He emphasized that, in simple terms, the budget neglects the concerns of farmers, discrepancies in electricity rates, and the challenges posed by increasing prices, while also lacking any visionary plans essential for the state.

He noted that this budget does not meet the commitments made ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which included provisions for allowances for women and unemployed youth, as well as full waiver of crop loans for farmers. The former Chief Minister highlighted that the budget fails to mention significant promises such as a monthly allowance of ₹2,500 for women, ₹4,000 for unemployed youth, six free LPG cylinders annually, and complete loan waivers for farmers.

Opposition's Stance on the Budget

Earlier in the day, the Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, remarked that the budget lacked any plans to fulfill electoral promises. He criticized the state government for merely attaching its party name to existing schemes like the laptop initiative without offering any new implementation strategies. He added that the budget presented by the TVK government on Wednesday did not include any roadmap or announcements regarding these initiatives.
