Aizawl, May 8: Authorities in Mizoram have successfully dismantled a sex trafficking operation disguised as a beauty salon and spa in Uttarakhand, rescuing five women from Mizoram, including two minors.

The Mizoram Police Media Cell reported that the investigation began after a woman lodged a complaint at the All Women Police Station in Aizawl on May 1. She revealed that she and a friend had traveled to Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, in October 2025, lured by promises of employment at Beauty Queen Salon and Spa, with a monthly salary of Rs 20,000. The spa owner covered their travel costs.

Upon arrival, the women were allegedly coerced into providing sexual services and were forced to consume alcohol and drugs against their will.

The victims claimed they were never compensated as promised; instead, deductions were made for travel, food, and lodging expenses.

Attempts to leave the premises were thwarted, but the women managed to escape on April 4 and reached Aizawl by April 7.

Following the FIR, a case was filed at the All Women Police Station under various sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. An SDPO from Aizawl South was assigned to the investigation, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed.

During the inquiry, police discovered that more Mizo women were still trapped in the operation. Acting on this information, a joint team from the Mizoram Police and the Women and Child Development Department traveled to Rudrapur on May 4. On May 5, with assistance from the Rudrapur Police, they raided the salon and rescued five women.

Additionally, another case was opened at the Rudrapur Police Station, leading to the arrest of six individuals linked to the trafficking operation.
