Aizawl, May 12: Lalenthangi Hnamte, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) stationed at the Tuichawng Ayush Health and Wellness Centre in Lunglei district, has been awarded the National Florence Nightingale Award by President Droupadi Murmu. This honor was bestowed during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, coinciding with International Nurses Day.
The State Health Department announced that this award recognizes Hnamte's exceptional contributions to community health and her relentless efforts to enhance medical services in the remote and tribal areas of Mizoram.
Since beginning her career as an ANM in 1999, Hnamte has dedicated herself to serving in challenging terrains throughout Lunglei district, particularly in isolated villages that lack adequate road access.
Many of the communities she has served are marginalized and often cut off from essential health services.
Despite numerous obstacles, she has consistently provided maternal and child health care, conducted immunization campaigns, and offered public health assistance, frequently traveling long distances on foot to reach her patients and administer vaccinations.
The Health Department noted that since her assignment at the Tuichawng Ayush Health and Wellness Centre in 2017, there have been notable advancements in health care delivery in the region.
With this latest accolade, Hnamte becomes the 18th individual from Mizoram to receive this esteemed award. Additionally, two other nurses from Mizoram, currently serving outside the state, have also been recognized with the same honor.
