Hazlewood's Availability Uncertain

Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia, has stated that there is no new information regarding the status of fast bowler Josh Hazlewood for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to commence on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.

During a press conference on Captain's Day, Marsh remarked, "There is no update at this time. We will continue to monitor Josh Hazlewood's situation closely."

Injury Concerns for Hazlewood

Previously, reports indicated that Hazlewood would be sidelined during the early phase of the T20 World Cup as he focuses on rehabilitation for his Achilles injury in Sydney. He had already missed time due to a hamstring injury prior to the Ashes series, and during his recovery, he sustained an Achilles injury that ruled him out of that series.

Australia's Confidence Ahead of the Tournament

In the same press conference, Marsh expressed optimism about his team's readiness to face a challenging group in the T20 World Cup. He emphasized the importance of consistency in their preparation, stating, "We hold great respect for all the teams we will compete against. We aim to maintain consistency in our preparation and approach."

Marsh highlighted the team's performance over the last 18 months as a source of confidence, saying, "I believe we have been one of the most consistent teams globally. We approach this World Cup with confidence, aware that conditions may vary. However, we have players with experience from around the world, and we are eager to take on the challenge against all opponents."

Ireland's Preparations for Tough Group

On the other hand, Ireland's captain Paul Stirling has emphasized the necessity of a strong start as his team gears up to face Sri Lanka in their opening match. He acknowledged the difficulties posed by a tough group and unfamiliar conditions. Stirling mentioned, "We have had solid preparation leading into this game, having spent a couple of weeks in Dubai. This is a crucial start for us, and I will focus solely on the upcoming game on Sunday night and see how it unfolds from there."
