Innovative Preparations by Arsenal's Manager

Mikel Arteta, the head coach of Arsenal, disclosed that he intentionally disrupted certain aspects of the team's pre-season training to better equip his players for upcoming challenges. Arsenal has started their Premier League season strongly, matching Manchester City with nine points and securing victories in all three of their initial matches. Arteta's creative approaches have yielded positive outcomes, including playing Liverpool's anthem 'You Will Never Walk Alone' before their match at Anfield and even hiring a pickpocket during a team dinner to enhance the players' alertness.

In their UEFA Champions League opener, Arsenal achieved a narrow 1-0 victory against Napoli. However, their journey to Naples faced hurdles on Tuesday due to technical difficulties at London airports, which delayed their flight to Italy. Arteta expressed his enthusiasm for such challenges, stating, 'I love those challenges, and I try to create them in preseason so when they happen, we already experience them, and we are ready.'

Adapting to Unforeseen Circumstances

'Arriving late at the stadium, altering routines, and requiring players to adapt are all part of the plan. Delays can occur, whether it's a missed flight or heavy traffic, and I want the players and staff to remain calm in those situations,' he explained. 'If we have an extra two or three hours on the plane, we should make the most of it—whether that means bonding, resting, or simply using the time wisely, but definitely not complaining or making excuses.'

Creative Training Techniques

Arteta shared additional unconventional methods he has employed during pre-season training over the years. 'We’ve delayed meals, altered transport routes, and even made the dressing room hotter and more challenging with fewer beds. These strategies are designed to prepare us for various scenarios,' he noted. 'We aim to anticipate challenges and create optimal conditions, ensuring that when unexpected stressors arise on match day, we are well-prepared.'

Strong Start to the Season

So far this season, Arsenal has maintained a perfect record, winning all five of their matches, including the Community Shield against Manchester City. They are set to face Sunderland in an away match on Saturday.
