Melinda French Gates Reflects on Jeffrey Epstein Encounter and Its Impact
Melinda Gates Discusses Epstein Encounter
In a recent interview with a prominent media outlet, Melinda French Gates expressed her belief that Jeffrey Epstein "could have been stopped". This statement comes shortly after her ex-husband, Bill Gates, faced questioning from US lawmakers regarding his connections to the convicted sex offender. Melinda, 61, recounted her unsettling feelings during her encounter with Epstein, who passed away in 2019 while awaiting trial for federal sex-trafficking charges. She described her emotions, stating, "My heart is racing," and asked, "Have you ever been around someone you just know is evil?" When prompted about her feelings during their meeting, she affirmed, "Yes," emphasizing the importance of trusting one's instincts about people.
Her remarks coincided with Bill Gates' closed-door meeting with the House Oversight Committee as part of an ongoing investigation into Epstein. Gates disclosed that Epstein had once become privy to sensitive details about his personal life, including infidelities in his marriage. He clarified that these affairs were unrelated to his interactions with Epstein but acknowledged the pain they caused his family. Gates stated that Epstein had attempted to blackmail him but was ultimately unsuccessful, highlighting how Epstein tried to exploit their relationship for his own gain.
Despite not facing any accusations of wrongdoing, Gates has expressed regret over his association with Epstein, a relationship that has been scrutinized since his divorce from Melinda. She has previously indicated that Bill's dealings with Epstein played a role in their marriage's dissolution. Earlier this year, documents from the US Department of Justice revealed emails from Epstein claiming that Gates had contracted a sexually transmitted infection from "Russian girls" and sought Epstein's assistance in hiding it from Melinda. Gates dismissed these allegations as "completely false," although he later admitted to having had two affairs with Russian women during his marriage, noting that Melinda had been wary of Epstein from the beginning.
In a February podcast interview, Melinda reflected on the societal reckoning surrounding Epstein's actions, stating, "No girl should ever be put in the situation that they were put in by Epstein and those around him." She expressed that revisiting these details is personally challenging, as they evoke painful memories from her marriage. Melinda emphasized that any remaining questions about Epstein and his associates should be directed at them, including her ex-husband, rather than herself.
Returning to her interview with the media outlet, Melinda reiterated her commitment to sharing her truth about her experiences with Epstein, labeling him as "an abhorrent human being". She expressed her compassion for the young girls affected by his actions, stating, "They deserve some peace, and they deserve some justice."
