Measles Cases Confirmed in Senapati District

Imphal, August 1: Officials have reported a measles outbreak in the Senapati district of Manipur, with 11 confirmed cases as of Friday.

The affected individuals are from various localities, including Council River Colony, Phyamai Vabuh, TNK Gate, Yapao Colony, DV School, the road to Emesiiphro, and the Mt Everes area.

Authorities are currently awaiting test results for an additional 18 individuals who are exhibiting similar symptoms.

Worryingly, 10 out of the 11 confirmed cases had not received any measles vaccinations, indicating significant gaps in immunization efforts.

"A quick survey in these areas has highlighted substantial deficiencies in vaccination coverage," stated a district official, who emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated.

In response to the outbreak, the district administration has organized a multi-stakeholder meeting aimed at formulating a coordinated strategy to curb the spread of the disease and tackle vaccine hesitancy.

"Vaccine hesitancy has played a major role in the current outbreak," the official noted.

This situation highlights the critical need to enhance routine immunization campaigns and combat vaccine misinformation, particularly in remote areas.

Health officials are urging the community to prioritize timely vaccinations to prevent further spread of the disease.
