Demolition Efforts at Turkman Gate

In the Turkman Gate area of New Delhi, the demolition campaign led by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Dargah (or Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque) has proven to be quite challenging. This operation commenced on the night of January 6-7, 2026, following directives from the Delhi High Court, and involved the deployment of approximately 30 to 32 bulldozers.

The encroachments were so robust that breaking down the walls took considerable time and effort from the workers. Reports indicate that three bulldozers were focused on a single wall, while a significant number of machines were utilized overall.

Officials have stated that no damage was inflicted on the mosque or dargah; only illegal encroachments, such as wedding halls, dispensaries, and shops, were removed. The process of clearing debris continued after the demolition.
