Massive Turnout for World Bicycle Day Celebrations in New Delhi
Celebrating World Bicycle Day
A vibrant crowd gathered at the renowned Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as New Delhi marked World Bicycle Day. The event was led by Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, alongside popular actor Vikrant Massey, silver medal-winning boxer Nupur Sheoran, and Kannada film star Ragini Dwivedi.
Nationwide Cycling Initiative
Over 15,000 cycling enthusiasts participated in New Delhi alone, while more than 400,000 individuals joined the cycling initiative across various locations in India, from Kargil and Leh to Kanyakumari and Alleppey, and from Tripura to Vadodara. This initiative, which began in December 2024, has positively impacted over 3 million lives across numerous locations.
Friendly Competitions and Enthusiastic Participation
During the event, the Union Sports Minister engaged in a friendly tug of war with actor Vikrant Massey and then rode alongside cyclists who cheered with slogans like 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Fit India, Hit India'.
Broad Participation Across the Nation
Various state sports departments, along with the Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, and several security forces, actively participated in this nationwide event.
Encouraging Daily Cycling
Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the numerous benefits of cycling, stating that it is an effective way to enhance both physical and mental health, conserve fuel, reduce pollution, and alleviate traffic congestion. He urged everyone to incorporate cycling into their daily routines, echoing Prime Minister Modi's advice to dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to fitness.
Community and Institutional Involvement
Numerous organizations, including the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Agrivision, Kisan Sanghs, and various fitness clubs, participated in the cycling drive. Municipal Corporations also organized cycling events, while the Cycling Federation of India hosted Asmita cycling tournaments exclusively for women.

Actor Vikrant Massey expressed nostalgia for childhood cycling experiences and emphasized the importance of maintaining health in today's sedentary lifestyle. He praised the commitment of Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to this initiative, noting the impressive turnout of participants.
Raising Awareness on Fitness
Nupur Sheoran, a celebrated boxer, acknowledged the growing awareness of fitness among Indians due to initiatives like Fit India. She encouraged everyone to dedicate time to physical activities, including cycling.
Engaging Activities and Fun Zone
The event also featured renowned athletes like Prachi Tomar and Shivani Pradhania, along with a fun zone where attendees could engage in activities such as badminton, chess, and tug of war.
Collaborative Efforts for a Healthier India
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, and MY Bharat. The cycling drive takes place simultaneously across all states and union territories, including various sports centers.
