Massive Turnout at Prayagraj Mela on Mauni Amavasya

The Prayagraj Magh Mela witnessed an extraordinary turnout on Mauni Amavasya, with around 13 million devotees taking part in the sacred bathing rituals. The fair administration has implemented various safety and guidance measures, including reflective tape and civil defense volunteers. With over 25,000 toilets and a dedicated tent city for meditation, the event is well-equipped to handle the massive influx of visitors. Additionally, transportation options like bike taxis and golf carts are available, alongside a robust security presence of over 10,000 police personnel to ensure the safety of all attendees. This year's event promises to be a memorable experience for all participants.
 

Record Attendance at Mela

On Sunday, during the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj, approximately 13 million devotees took a holy dip in the Ganges and at the confluence by 8 AM on Mauni Amavasya. An official from the fair administration reported that people began arriving at the bathing sites from midnight.


Previously, on Makar Sankranti, around 10.3 million and nearly 8.5 million devotees participated in the bathing rituals during Ekadashi.


Safety and Guidance Measures

Commissioner Soumya Agarwal stated that reflective tape has been placed on poles to guide the devotees, and civil defense volunteers are assisting in directing the crowds. The Magh Mela spans an area of 800 hectares divided into seven sectors.


Facilities for Devotees

Over 25,000 toilets have been constructed in the fair area, with more than 3,500 sanitation workers deployed. For those wishing to undertake a short-term stay, a tent city has been established, offering facilities for meditation and yoga.


Transportation and Security

To facilitate easy movement, bike taxis and golf carts are available for devotees. Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Neeraj Pandey mentioned that more than 10,000 police personnel are stationed throughout the fair area to ensure safety and smooth transit.


He added that this year, 42 temporary parking lots have been set up, accommodating over 100,000 vehicles. The Magh Mela has also seen the construction of 12,100 feet of ghats, equipped with all essential amenities for the attendees.
