Massive Methamphetamine Seizure by Assam Rifles in Mizoram

Significant Drug Bust Near Myanmar Border

Aizawl, July 12: Personnel from the Assam Rifles have successfully intercepted a large shipment of Methamphetamine tablets valued at ₹112.40 crore in the Champhai district of Mizoram, close to the Myanmar border, as reported by the paramilitary unit on Saturday.

While conducting a patrol in the area, Assam Rifles members noticed two individuals carrying backpacks in Zokhawthar village near the border on Friday.

Upon examining the backpacks, they discovered a staggering 3.33 lakh Methamphetamine tablets.

The two suspects, however, managed to evade capture by jumping into the Tiau river, which runs along the Indo-Myanmar border, and fled into Myanmar.

According to the statement, the confiscated Meth tablets are believed to be intended for distribution in Champhai town.

Methamphetamines are classified as stimulants, which allow users to remain awake and engage in prolonged activities with reduced sleep requirements.

The seized drugs have been transferred to the Mizoram Police in Zokhawthar for further investigation and legal action.
