Preparations for a Grand Cultural Showcase
Guwahati, January 2: Assam is gearing up for a spectacular cultural event, with plans for 10,000 Bagurumba dancers to perform at the Sarusajai Sports Complex on January 17, in the esteemed presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Assam's Cultural Affairs Minister, Bimal Borah, shared insights into the event's schedule, stating that artists from various regions of the state will commence intensive rehearsals starting January 12.
The rehearsals are set to span four consecutive days, focusing on ensuring coordination, discipline, and artistic excellence among the dancers.
“From January 12 to 15, Sarusajai will host rehearsals featuring artists from across Assam. These sessions are vital for participants to grasp the choreography, formations, and rhythm, enabling them to deliver a seamless and visually captivating performance,” Borah explained.
He also mentioned that January 16 will be a rest day for the performers, considering the extensive participation and the physical demands of the traditional dance.
“Following days of intense practice, the dancers will have a full day to rest and recover,” he added.
The highlight of the event is scheduled for the evening of January 17, when the mass Bagurumba performance will be showcased before the Prime Minister and other esteemed guests.
“On the evening of January 17, in the presence of the Prime Minister, 10,000 Bagurumba dancers will unite on stage. This will be a proud moment for Assam and a significant representation of our cultural heritage,” Borah stated.
Bagurumba, a traditional dance of the Bodo community, is celebrated for its elegant movements that draw inspiration from nature.
Comprehensive logistical arrangements will be implemented at Sarusajai to support the large number of performers, including rehearsal management, safety protocols, and coordination efforts.
