Manoj Tiwary Advocates for India to Boycott Asia Cup Match Against Pakistan
Call for Boycott Over Recent Terror Attacks
Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary has voiced his opinion that India should refrain from participating in the highly anticipated match against Pakistan during the upcoming Asia Cup. His stance is fueled by the tragic terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals due to violence linked to Pakistan-backed terrorists.
Tiwary's Personal Decision to Boycott
Tiwary is part of a group of fans expressing their discontent regarding the match scheduled for September 14 in Dubai. He has made it clear that he will personally boycott the Asia Cup, stating, "I don't like to see it. I am personally boycotting it due to the current environment, especially after the tragic events in Pahalgam."
Reflections on Past Attacks
He also referenced the 2019 Pulwama attack, where 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives due to a suicide bomber's assault. Tiwary questioned how anyone could enjoy a game under such circumstances, emphasizing the emotional toll on families affected by these tragedies.
Questioning the Value of Competing
Tiwary further challenged the rationale behind playing against Pakistan, asking, "What is the benefit? Is it just for TRP or revenue? If the ICC cannot eliminate this match, then we should. We can perform well in other games and make a statement as a nation." He highlighted the ongoing threat posed by terrorism emanating from Pakistan and criticized the lack of action from the Pakistani government to curb these organizations.
Historical Context of Boycotts
In the past, India has also refused to compete against Pakistan in various tournaments, including the World Championship of Legends, where they withdrew from a semi-final match, allowing Pakistan to advance but ultimately lose the title to South Africa. Additionally, India opted to play all its Champions Trophy matches at neutral venues, securing victory against New Zealand in the final.
